true, but one of the big reasons why the M5 is really fast at higher speeds (and able to reach 205mph with the speed limiter removed) is because of it has two more gears to burn through over the S65 (7 speed SMG vs 5 speed automatic), which would essentially make up for the higher drag coefficient and the lack of output and torque compared to the 65. Matter of fact, the 6 speed Manual version of the M5 is almost 4 seconds slower than its SMG counterpart to 150mph.

You don't know much about physics :-) The maximum hp and air resistance is almost all that matters for top speed. The weight will almost make no difference. The s65 has 20% more hp. It does NOT have 20% higher air resistance. The cw is actually lower for the S-class than the M5. MB has laways had very low drag coeffs on their cars. So the M5 will have no chance at higher speeds. At lower speeds it will have a small chance though since the S65 is much heavier.

you guys make me sick,u actually believe the m5 is faster becuz it won for a shirt distance off a stop, try managing 728 lbs of torque from 0mph the s65 is tremendously faster to even race the two is a complete insult

S65 is faster but at higher speeds (over 260km/h)is the M5 faster

Thank you poster for the SEDAN vs SEDAN not coupe vs sedan bs...Heres how it breaks out - M5 has 500LB, gear ratio (in either setup), and axle ratio advantage; 65 has 100HP and DOUBLE TQ, displacement and twin turbo, and drag coefficient advantage. With that said, the only reason the 65 should lose to 120 is traction issues. To 160, as cars gain speed they need more output just to overcome the forces. The M5 weight/gears just aren't enough to outdo the ouput and drag coefficient edge of the 65.

hahaha olagum one think you are right that S65 amg will destroy the m5 but no after 140 mp/h i don't belive that S65 amg can keep up to 211 mp/h 140 mp/h -211mp/h i don't thin so !!!!!!!!!!!

S65 Will beat the M5 from the dig, but after 120mph, the M5 will start catching up and actually beats it to 160mph.

this was an ordinary S500 or even S420 CDI....cos if we look how much difference was between them at the end we can assume what it is!!! Just to know that S600, S63 are little faster than M5....but S65 AMG is totally another world compared to the M5...it destroyes BMW
