If I was the owner of one of these GT500 Cobras I would add an IRS and drop it around 1'5-2 inches to help prevent wheelhop. It is an amazing vehicle though.
I'm trading my 07 Corvette for an 07 Shelby GT500 on Monday. I test drove it yesterday, and it isn't nearly as refined as the Vette is, but it's a pure brute American musclecar. It doesn't feel any faster than my C6 is, as the C6 bests it by about 500 lbs, but with a pully, computer chip, cold air intake and exhaust it'll add about another 100-115 hp. Can't wait for Monday!!
You're exactly right. I don't know why people can't grasp that the factories rate flywheel horsepower, not RWHP. Back in the day they were even rated with no accessories, so the HP ratings were way over exagerated. The GT500 dyno's at anywhere from low 430's to low 440's depending on conditions. The average standard vehicle looses about 13-15% through the drivetrain and the average automatic can lose 18-20% through the drivetrain. But for about $1000 you can add about 115 HP.
Wow you know nothing about mustangs. The understeer is because of that heavy blown 5.4 iron block engine and the barely modified suspension. The roush cars have live axles, I dont know what made you think they had an IRS. The only mustangs in history to have an irs were the SVT Cobra models from 99-04
I understand people wanting the IRS but in reality it was more troublesome than it was beneficial. Besides if the solid axle FR500 can compete (and many times beat) the Porches and BMWs in the Grand Am series I'm certain it's more than enough for somebody on the street.
I am a stang fan, but I am disappointed they used the same solid rear axle. But hey I'll just buy one and put in an independent suspension+some performance suspension parts. It'll be all good =P
Nice car, but the lack of independent rear suspension gives it too much of an under-steer in corners at high speeds due to the live solid rear axle. I'd rather sacrifice a few horses and go for the Rousch edition with independent suspension instead.
according to K&N thier cold-air intake system would add 45-50HP, which i thing is insane lol
It's 500 at the flywheel, and if it truly couldn't hit 500 HP "Somehow" , Ford would have been sued to hell and back by now. Think about it.
Also different dynos can put out different numbers not to mention their are all kinds of additional factors that can affect HP. For example dyno'ing a "cold" engine vs a "hot" engine can affect the numbers. The rear tires can affect the numbers(slippage) altitude and weather can effect numbers etc etc etc.
Depends on correction factors and transmission type (auto sap more power)
That would mean 500Hp at the flywheel...duh
is it possible to have it in the same colours (black and yellow) like gt-h mustang?
And you came to that assumption how?
That's the funniest thing I've read, thanks for the laugh. So, the "back end of th car is thrown in front of the car," so you mean it spins out of control. But wait, you say, "allowing gravity to pullth rear back down." Man, get a grip, you have absolutely no understanding of physics. More weight will not help braking. You should have studied more in school. I hope you post more, you are one funny guy. If you posted in sarchasm, well done, if not, uhhh... no comment...
I wish i would be in your shoes (and wallet)
ford HAVE admited that the new gt500 only produces 475bhp
but i dont care
at that price and with those looks and with more history than america can muster id buy one
I just put in a build order for mine. Will pick up end of April. Same color as in this video.
Im Proud to own this car
its funny how the so called competiton dodge with its 4 door sedan "chargers" only have 2 muscle car makes in their charger models the r/t aka daytona aka "hemi" and the str8 the others are standard v6 engine models the se and the sxt and the str8 is the fastest of all charger makes and is only 425 hp while the gt500 is 500hp and up ..by the way i own a 2006 ford mustang gt modded to 325 hp it runs in the family
i own a 06 mustang gt 4.6 liter V8 modded to 325 hp right now.. i'm a stang fan its runs in the family but the insurance must be high as hell on a GT500 at that much horsepower way up to 550hp ive read ..the so called competition dodge with its "chargers" r/t and STR8 is a bit pathetic to me only 2 muscle car makes and the others the SE and the SXT are v6 way under 300 hp what a shame and the str8 is only 425 hp and thats the fastest dodge charger has
Oh crap, you guys are such morons. EVERY BLOODY CAR looses certain % of power due to drive train loss.. SO this Mustang actually makes 500hp which after 10% drivetrain loss is 450hp........
I wouldn't say, "most cars lose at least 50hp....".
Here's 2 examples - a Mini Cooper S at 172hp puts more power to the ground than a 200hp Sentra SE-R Spec V.
A stock Mazdaspeed 3 puts down around 240whp or 23hp off from the crank.
You can't be serious. You're claiming the heavier a vehicle is, the better it stops?
Look at it this way, take the same brakes, put them on a 2000lb vehicle and it will seperate your retinas from the backs of your eyes. Then, put the same brakes on a 6000lb vehicle and take a quick nap while you coast to a stop.
More weight DOES NOT help with braking performance.
I think he may be referring to the GT500KR. |
