thats misleading. the nitro cars accelerate faster off the line and maybe the 1/4 mile becuase of how hp and gearing works. thrust is different. a jet car with a calculated 20,000hp will pull just as hard at launch as it would at probably 200-300mph. something a drag car can't do. its simple math. piston engines have a large advantage at low speeds. while the jet car's physics has the advantage the faster it goes...you can easly estimate the top speed with some simple plug and chug

I'd like to see them make a run out in Bonneville on the salt flats where they wouldn't have to shut them down after a quarter mile...its hard to tell how fast they could really go because jets dont have the ability to accelerate as fast as the Nitro cars
